RALEIGH, N.C. – A new online map is highlighting Black -owned businesses across the state.
The founder of Black Dollar NC Johnny Hackett recently created the online tool to help Black entrepreneurs have economic success.
“We get messages, emails, text messages, shout-outs on Instagram, social media all the time just with folks being able to expand their business even if they don’t end up making the sale with those customers, they are still extra potential customers that came their way,” Hackett said.
Berry Nash, cosmetics creator and owner of the Berry Bomb at Triangle Town Center uses her space to showcase Black entrepreneurs.
“I’m rooting for everybody Black, so I created a store just for that,” Nash said. “We need that help. We need that push.”
Nash says customers have walked into her store specifically due to her inclusion on the map. She is proud to feature other Black entrepreneur’s items in her store.
“Alongside Black Dollar, I want to do the same thing for local African American women,”Nash explained.
Hackett says they would would like to see more participants in the map across the state, particularly in the Charlotte area.
Since the team is based in Raleigh, that’s where a bulk of the businesses are right now.
